The Buffalo Bills have released cornerback Drayton Florence today. He was scheduled to have a cap hit of $5 million and $6 million over the next 2 years. The Bills recently drafted cornerback Stephon Gilmore and are hoping that he can step in and take Florence's spot. I understand that this is the NFL and teams are in the business of cutting average players who have high cap hits. Unfortunately, I believe this has may put too much pressure in Gilmore. He may feel as though he now needs to be a starting cornerback. Hopefully though, it will motivate Gilmore to be the best player he can. From the sounds of Gilmore, he will be the type of player that will do that.
Florence has had many good plays, but has also been burned many times on either long passes or pass interferences. I believe that the loss of Florence will be a downgrade, but hopefully nothing that the Bills cannot overcome.
