London 2012 Opening Ceremony

The 2012 Olympic Summer games are being held in London this year. This is the 3rd time that the Olympics are being held in London. The games began with the opening ceremony on 27 July and will continue until 12 August 2012.

The opening ceremony in London was interesting. They had a moment showing Queen Elizabeth jumping out of a plane with Daniel Craig (as James Bond). They tried to show old time London with its farming. They then changed London over into the industrial revolution. They finally showed London as a youth movement, showing off the social media age. Finally over 10,000 athletes from 204 countries walked the track on Olympic Stadium before the torch was lit.

There are many interesting storylines for the Olympics as per usual. Some of these include the return of Beijing stars Michael Phelps and Usian Bolt, the rivalry between Phelps and fellow American Ryan Lochte, amputee Oscar Pistorius competing in track & field, American swimmer Missy Franklin, and all of the gymnastics events that occur over the course of the 1st week. It also has great tournaments in tennis, volleyball, soccer and basketball.

It will be a very exciting 2 weeks, especially since it only comes around once every 4 years. It is time to prove who the best in the world are at their specific events.
