SABRES SUCK VOLUME 1

Terry's Folly Part I

From Fire Them All Pegula; Written by Anees Kashmiri on 2012-01-23
Terry

With their 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues Saturday night the Buffalo Sabres find themselves in a position that was considered unfathomable in October- second from last place in the Eastern Conference standings. The enthusiasm felt by the blue and gold-clad faithful upon the arrival of owner Terry Pegula last year has deteriorated into utter disgust with a team that is failing in every aspect of the game.

The team, quite simply, is a mess in how it has been constructed and how it executes on the ice. When this happens to other teams the natural inclination for ownership is to replace the general manager and the coach. But one forgets that this disaster is happening in Buffalo.

While changes to management and the coaching staff are usual upon a change in ownership, Pegula decided to give the tandem of Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier a chance to redeem themselves with a bigger budget and...(Read More)

Terry's Folly Part II

From Fire Them All Pegula; Written by Anees Kashmiri on 2012-01-23

Replacing a coach whose message has become stale and has a penchant for juggling lines every five minutes would certainly result in some positive tension among players who will be trying to gain the new bench boss’ trust. Perhaps the new coach will also adopt a more up-tempo style that can produce more than two goals per game and not worry about having to rely on suspect goaltending to bail the team out.

The fate of Ruff could be placed in the hands of a new general manager who actually approaches trades and free agency with aggression and is not afraid of making changes that his predecessor thought to be too radical. If Philadelphia had no problem trading Jeff Carter and Mike Richards on the same day then why can’t Regier’s replacement ship out members of Buffalo’s so-called “core” that has not won a single playoff series since 2007?

There are plenty of candidates out...(Read More)

Sell Sell Sell Sabres!

From Fire Them All Pegula; Written by Steve Dowling on 2012-01-22
Sell Sell Sell Sabres!

The Buffalo Sabres are currently on a 12 game road losing streak and are 10 points out of a playoff spot with just 34 games to go. Based on past history, a team needs approximately 93 points to make the playoffs. The Sabres currently have a record of 19-24-5, for just 43 points. They will most likely need to go 25-9 to make the playoffs. There is absolutely no chance of this happening. With the goal of this team to win the Stanley Cup, the team needs to rebuild around the pieces they want here next year, while at the same establishing draft picks or prospects to help them in the future.

The best way to do this is by using the method employed by the 2010-11 Ottawa Senators. Upon realizing they were not going to make the playoffs, they got rid of all the players they were not expecting to be on the team the next season, while at the same time getting future pieces. The Sabres need to do...(Read More)

Miller Lite

Miller Lite

A couple years ago Ryan Miller jerseys flooded the arena. The number 30 was worn proud by many. Adults praised him and kids idolized him. Players on other teams were lucky to score on the star goalie. "Miller Time" was a popular phrase among many fans to show appreciation for their amazing goalie.

Now however, Miler Time has become "Miller Lite". He not only seems lazy in net, but it seems like he doesn't even care whether he wins or loses. The goals he has been letting in are easy goals that an Olympic goalie should have no problem saving.

Aside from the lackadaisical net-minding, Ryan Miller's attitude is one that the Sabres do not need. He thinks he's better than everyone and gets very defensive whenever criticized. He's no longer the humble player he once was. I don't know whether it was the Olympics, his wife, or both, but Miller no longer treats his stardom as something...(Read More)

Trade Talk

Trade Talk

Lately, the Sabres have been pathetic to say the least. They have only won nine of their last 33 games and are on a twelve game losing streak on the road.

This is totally unacceptable. Half of the time it seems the team has no heart and they just don't care. Unfortunately, for the few people on the team that consistently produce and give their best effort, it's not enough. At this point, it seems there is no hope for the season. With the ultimate goal being the Stanley Cup, some would think why bother trying the rest of the season?

In part, I agree with this - getting a top five pick in the NHL entry draft would be wonderful, but at the same time, I don't think it's enough.
I don't really care what happens with the rest of the season as far as wins and losses go, but I do hope there are changes.

First, Ryan Miller needs to go. His attitude is totally uncalled for. People...(Read More)
