Drafting a Quarterback In 2014?
Should the Bills draft a quarterback in 2014?
This is the question that many are asking after E.J. Manuel's 4 interceptions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills are eliminated from playoff contention, and there are several quarterbacks available in the 2014 draft. Many of Manuel's games this year have been impressive for a rookie, but many have been terrible, such as the Steelers game and recent Bucs game.
I believe that Manuel should be given one more season at the quarterback position, especially if one or any of Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles, Brett Hundley, and Johnny Manziel do not declare this season. Marcus Mariotta has already stated that he will return to Oregon next season. Soon-to-be Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston will most likely also be a member of the 2015 draft class.
Waiting a year would give the Bills one more year to evaluate Manuel and add talent to the team, not replenish the quarterback position. I would certainly be willing to part with Manuel in 2015 if he had not put up a 25ish touchdown, 10ish interception season and showed real progression as a quarterback.
Unfortunately, the Bills have been in this position for years, and who knows when the Bills will come out of this funk.
