With the arrival of fall comes the start of shoulder season, otherwise known as a great time to capitalize on some of the year's best travel deals.
Earlier this month, TravelPulse founder and CEO Mark Murphy broke down a handful of the best deals available this upcoming autumn. On Tuesday, Murphy appeared on WGN Chicago to provide a few of his favorite fall destinations as well as provide some tips for booking fall travel.
For many travelers seeking a warm weather getaway, Murphy recommends a trip to the Caribbean, specifically Mexico's Riviera Maya or Jamaica.
Visitors to the former destination can take advantage of Karisma Resorts' award-winning Gourmet Inclusive Experience which includes gourmet cuisine and premium drinks, among other services and activities, while travelers to Jamaica can save up to 55 percent at the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall next month, according to Murphy.
The fall is also an excellent time to cruise, with Murphy highlighting European river cruises with AmaWaterways.
"Yeah, the temperature is going to be chillier," said Murphy. "But, you know what, you're on that ship, you're looking at castles as you're cruising, you're getting commentary and then you're going right into the local village and exploring it."

Passengers can save up to 40 percent right now when booking with AmaWaterways.
For Americans looking to travel domestically and take advantage of low gas prices this fall, Murphy suggests exploring Rockville, Indiana's Covered Bridge Festival, which kicks off Oct. 14 and features more than two dozen covered bridges.
"Just find a local hotel and go down for a long weekend, enjoy the tranquility, the leaves turning," said Murphy. "I think it's a fantastic way to spend a nice long weekend."
